AZ FEDERATION OF CHAPTERS HISTORY


The AZ Federation Charter was dated and signed on March 4, 1957 under the National Association of Retired Civil Employees (NARCE) with five chapters involved. In 1970 at the National Convention the organization's name was changed to National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). In 2005 the name was changed to National Active and Retired Federal Employees association.



First Az Federation State Convention (5 Chapters) was held on March 21, 1957 in Phoenix, Arizona. The original chapters being: Tucson 55, Phoenix 56, Mesa 295, Yuma 266, and Prescott 321. The Constitution & Bylaws were written and accepted with dues of ten cents per member.

Second Convention was held in the Recreation Hall of Verde Park at East Van Buren & 9th Street in Phoenix, Arizona on March 21, 1958. (13 resolutions)

Third convention was held in the VFW Hall on North Arizona Street in Prescott, Arizona on April 17, 1959. (8 resolutions)

Fourth convention was held in Tucson, Arizona on April 8, 1960. ( 13 resolutions)

Fifth convention was held in Phoenix, Az on April 6, 1961. (10 resolutions)

Sixth convention was held in Tucson, AZ at the YMCA on April 5, 1962. ( 10 resolutions and Bylaw changes) Increase dues to 20 cents per member!

Seventh convention was held in the St. Michael Hotel in Prescott, Arizona on April 26, 1963. (5 resolutions)

Eighth convention was held in the Desert Inn Motor Hotel, Tucson, Arizona on April 2, 1964. (8 resolutions)

Ninth convention was held in the Desert Inn, Tucson, Arizona on April 22, 1965. (12 resolutions )

10th convention was held in the Ramada Inn, Phoenix, Arizona on April 21, 1966. (Bylaw changes)

11th convention was held in the Ramada Inn, Phoenix, Arizona, on April 18, 1967, hosted by Chapters 56, 295, and 768. ( 10 resolutions)

12th convention was held in the Statler Hilton Inn, Tucson, Arizona, on April 23, 1968, hosted by chapter 55. (10 resolutions & Bylaw changes)

13th convention (9 chapters, 57 delegates) was held in the Statler Hilton Inn, Tucson, Arizona on April 8, 1969 hosted by Chapter 55. (8 resolutions & Bylaw changes)

14th convention (9 chapters, 63 delegates) was held in the Lakeview Center, Sun City, Arizona, on April 7, 1970 hosted by chapter 768. ( 19 resolutions & Bylaw changes)

15th convention (12 chapters, 68 delegates) was held at Yavapai Community College, Prescott, Arizona, on April 23, 1971 hosted by chapter 321. ( 10 resolutions) New Chapters: Verde Valley 1147 (x/71), White Mountain 1165 (x/71), Apache Junction 1181 (x/71) All future conventions will be increased to a minimum of 1 days!

16th convention (15 chapters, 77 delegates) was held at Newton's Sands Hotel, Phoenix, Arizona, on May 8, 1972 hosted by chapter 56. ( 19 resolutions) New chapters: Flagstaff 1210 (x/72), Scottsdale 1234 (3/72), Mogollon 1235 (3/72)

17th convention (15 chapters, 80 delegates) was held at the Executive Inn, Tucson, Arizona, on May 7, 1973 hosted by chapter 55. ( 6 resolutions)

18th convention (13 chapters, 94 delegates) was held at the Superstition Inn, Apache Junction, Arizona, on May 9, 1974 hosted by chapter 1181. ( 45 resolutions) Chapters: Flagstaff 1210 & Green Valley 1061 are inactive, and Cochise 1318 (x/73) is new. Change convention to minimum of two days!

19th convention (18 chapters, 113 delegates) was held at the Stardust Hotel, Yuma, Arizona, on April 23 & 24, 1975 hosted by chapter 266. ( 21 resolutions & Bylaw changes, Federation Award Program started) New chapters: Valley West 1395 (x/74), Sierra 1400 (x/74), and Havasu 1413 (2/75).

20th convention (23 chapters, 119 delegates) was held at the El Dorado Master Host Inn, Nogales, Arizona, on May 5 & 6, 1976 hosted by chapter 1078. ( 12 resolutions & Bylaw changes) Five new chapters: Youngtown 1452 (8/75), Mohave Valley (10/75), Saguaro 1469 (10/75), Page 1470 (11/75), and Greenway Sun City 1485.

21st convention (28 chapters, 125 delegates) was held at the Sunburst Hotel, Scottsdale, Arizona, on May 10-11, 1977 hosted by chapter 1234. New chapters: Tempe 1505 & Squaw Peak 1506 (x/77)

22nd convention (30 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Peoria-Suncity Motor Inn, Peoria, Arizona, on May 12-13, 1978 hosted by chapters 768, 1452, 1485. New Chapter: Copper Belt 1543 (x/78)

23rd convention (32 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Hilton Inn, Tucson, Arizona, in May 7-9, 1979 hosted by chapter 55. New chapters: Benson 1559 (x/79), Safford 1560 (x/79)

24th convention (34 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Sunburst Hotel, Scottsdale, Arizona, in May 5-7, 1980 hosted by chapter 1234 & 1506. New chapters: Sunnyside-Phx 1686 (x/79), Flagstaff 1699 (x/79), Kingman 1707 (x/80), Sedona 1726 (x/80), Camp Verde 1731 (x/80), Parker 1736 (x/80). State assessment increased from $0.20 to $0.50 per member.

25th convention (38 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Ramada Inn East, Phoenix, Arizona, in May 4-6, 1981 hosted by chapter 1505. New chapters: Winslow 1742 (x/80), Sun City West 1789 (x/81), Golden Shores 1815 (x/81), Mt Tipton 1825 (x/81)

26th convention (41 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Holiday Inn, Flagstaff, Arizona, in May 3-5, 1982 hosted by chapters 1147, 1165, 1235, 1699, 1726, & 1731. New chapters: Roadrunner 1874 (x/81), Bisbee 1880 (x/82), Casa Grande Valley 1905 (x/82).

27th convention (41 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Sheraton Rio Rica Hotel, Nogales, Arizona, in May 3-5, 1983 hosted by chapter 1061. State assessment increased from $0.50 to $0.75 per member.

28th convention (41 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Stardust Resort Motor Inn, Yuma, Arizona, in May 3-5, 1984 hosted by chapter 266. New chapters: Chino Valley 2073 (x/84), Bradshaw 2106 (x/84).

29th convention (41 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Sunburst Resort, Scottsdale, Arizona, in May 3-5, 1985 hosted by chapter 1686. New chapter: Chandler 2192 (x/85)

30th convention (42 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Nautical Inn, Lake Havasu City, Arizona, in April 21-23, 1986 hosted by chapter 1413. New chapters: Wickenburg 2201 (x/86), Springerville 2207 (x/86)

31st convention (42 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Double Tree Inn, Tucson, Arizona, in May 4-6, 1987 hosted by chapter 1874.

32nd convention (42 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Tempe, Arizona, in May 2-4, 1988 hosted by chapter 1505.

33rd convention (43 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Sheraton Hotel, Prescott, Arizona, in May 1-3, 1989, hosted by chapter 321, 2073, & 2106. New Safford chapter 1560 (11/89)

34th convention (43 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Rio Rico Resort, Rio Rico, Arizona, April 30 - May 2, 1990, hosted by chapter 1061. State assessment increased from $0.75 to $1.00 per member.

35th convention (43 chapters, 154 delegates) was held at the Hilton Tucson East Hotel, Tucson, Arizona, in May 20-22, 1991, hosted by chapter 55. Az now has eight districts instead of 5. ( 13 resolutions & Bylaw changes)

36th convention (42 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Ramada Inn, Sierra Vista, Arizona, on May 4-6, 1992, hosted by 1400.

37th convention (42 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Ramada Inn, Tempe, Arizona, on May 4-6, 1993, hosted by 1505. State assessment increased from $1 to $1.50 per member.

38th convention (38 chapters, ? delegates) was held in Prescott, Arizona, on April 18-20, 1994 hosted by chapter 321.

39th convention (38 chapters, 158 delegates) was held at the Park Grove Hotel, Tucson, Arizona, on April 30 to May 3, 1995 hosted by chapter 1874. ( 17 resolutions & Bylaw changes) First Color cover Souvenir book with 14 pages.
40th convention (37 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Quality Hotel, Phoenix, Arizona, hosted by District I, including chapters Phoenix 56, Squaw Peak 1506 and Sunnyslope 1686 on May 5 to 8, 1996. ( 22 resolutions & Bylaw changes) Contained Host Chapters History in Souvenir book with 20 pages.
41st convention (37 chapters, ? delegates) was held at the Little America Hotel in Flagstaff, Arizona, on April 27 to 30, 1997 hosted by chapter 1147. ( xx resolutions & Bylaw changes) Souvenir book contained 20 pages.
42nd convention (36 chapters, 173 delegates) was held at the Riverside Hotel & Casino, Laughlin, Nevada, on April 26 to 29, 1998, hosted by District III including chapters Havasu 1413, Mohave 1467, and Kingman 1707. The largest (327 people) and first one out of state. (16 resolutions); National Rep: Judy Parks, National Legislative and Mory Lewis, Region 7 Vice Presidfent; Second color cover Souvenir book with 36 pages using plastic spiral binding. 43rd convention (34 chapters, 169 delegates) was held at the Shilo Inn, Yuma, Arizona, on April 25 to 28, 1999, hosted by chapter 266. ( xx resolutions & Bylaw changes) Chapters Sun City 0768 & Parker 1736 closes; National Rep: Frank Atwater, National President and Mory Lewis, Region 7 Vice President; Souvenir book containing 38 pages.
44th convention (34 chapters, 168 delegates) was held at the Windemere Hotel, Sierra Vista, Arizona, on May 7-10, 2000, hosted by chapter 1400. 45th convention (34 chapters, 167 delegates) was held at the Dobson Ranch Inn, Mesa, Arizona, on May 6 thru 9, 2001 hosted by Tempe Chapter 1505. 46th Convention with 271 registered (34 chapters, 164 delegates) was held at the Riverside Hotel & Casino, Laughlin, Neveda, on April 7 thru 10, 2002 hosted by District 3, Havasu 1413, Mohave 1467, & Kingman 1707.
